GPX files

A GPX file is a GPS track — a breadcrumb trail of coordinates that records a path. It’s the standard format cycling apps use to store and share routes.

When you add a route to the site, you upload a GPX file and the map, distance, and elevation profile are generated automatically.

If you’ve already recorded a ride, you can export it as a GPX file from most cycling apps.

You don’t need to ride a route before adding it. You can draw one on a map.

  • gpx.studio — Free browser-based route planner. Draw your route on the map and export as GPX. No account needed.
  • RideWithGPS — Route planner with cycling-specific features. You can paste a RideWithGPS link directly into the route creator instead of downloading a file.
  • Komoot — Plan a tour and export the GPX.

If your route is on RideWithGPS, you don’t need to download anything. On the new route page, paste the RideWithGPS URL directly into the import field. The GPS track is fetched automatically.

Google Maps routes (created with My Maps) can also be imported by pasting the share link.
